Ft. Selden State Monument
Established in 1865 to protect settlers from outlaws and Apaches, this state monument is a short 13-mile drive north of Las Cruces. Ft. Selden once housed an infantry and cavalry company including the Buffalo Soldiers. General Douglas MacArthur also spent several years of his childhood here in the 1880s. Monument features trails and exhibits.

Space Murals, Inc., Museum and Gift Shop
A complete history of space exploration, an astronaut memorial and actual missiles are just some of the out-of-this-world exhibits on display at this museum. Also on display: a replica of the space shuttle, Mercury capsule and space station Freedom, with new artifacts arriving almost daily.

White Sands Missile Range Museum
The site of the world's first atomic explosion and the birthplace of man's first journey into space, the White Sands Missile Range Museum is one-stop shopping for space enthusiasts. The museum explores both of these modern events as well as providing a window on the pre-history of the region, early pioneering efforts, mining and the Army's 19th century contributions to the settlement of Southern New Mexico.
